Woke at 4:00am. I took to the streets and was surprised by the light and how it lit the buildings though the maze of streets that is Vienna.

Hochstrahlbrunnen Link
Built in 1873 to celebrate the completion of Vienna’s first mountain spring water pipeline.
The monument behind is a Soviet War Memorial and soldier atop column is holding a red army flag and a golden shield. Errected in 1945

Wienfluss II Link
The elegant balustrades, pavilions, lamps, and sculpted urns lining both banks are a celebrated piece of Viennese Art Nouveau landscape architecture.
Designed around 1903–1907 by the architects Friedrich Ohmann and Josef Hackhofer.

Johann Strauss (1825-1899) Link
Johann Strauss II, gilded and mid-phrase, standing in a white marble arch carved with dancing figures. The best known of the monuments in the Stadtpark, and the one everyone stops at.

Robert Stolz (1880-1975) Link
A curved granite stele with a bronze head and gilded lettering, set a few steps back off the path.
Stolz wrote operettas, then film scores in Hollywood after leaving Austria, and was still conducting in his nineties.

Hans Makart (1840-1884) Link
Makart in the costume of his own history paintings, standing in a gap cut into the hedge.
He set the taste of Ringstraße Vienna so completely that the period still carries his name. Carved by Viktor Tilgner.
